Climate Conferences (COP)

Elizabeth May has attended many Conferences of the Parties (COP) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)

At COP19 in Warsaw in 2013, she was part of the Afghanistan delegation because the Harper government did not allow her to be part of the Canadian delegation.

At COP 21 in Paris in 2015, Elizabeth was instrumental in urging Canada to support the historic Paris Agreement target of keeping the increase in global average temperature to below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels, and if possible limit the increase to 1.5 °C.

Elizabeth May's updates from conferences:

COP 20 (Lima) in 2014

COP 21 (Paris) in 2015

COP 23 (Bonn) in 2017

COP 24 (Katowice) in 2018  (video may take a little time to load)

A Call to Action:

In early 2016, the Saanich-Gulf Islands Electoral District Association initiated a campaign of climate action. SGI EDA members, constituents, and volunteers were encouraged to use social media, letter writing, phone calls, and petitions to voice their support of the historic goals of the Paris Agreement.
